Mobile Golf Cart Repair in Lake Placid

Sebring Golf Cart Repair services golf carts at your driveway throughout Lake Placid: the town along US 27, the lakefront homes around Lake Placid and Lake June in Winter, and the Placid Lakes community to the southwest. The $75 to $100 service call includes the on-site diagnostic and applies toward the repair, with most jobs done in one visit. Lake Placid is about 16 miles south of Sebring on US 27, the far end of our route, so it draws the top of the trip fee and a carefully loaded truck.

Caladiums, murals, and a lot of lakes

The Town of Lake Placid counted 2,360 residents at the 2020 Census, with a median age of 41.3 and 23.9 percent of the population 65 or older. It calls itself the Caladium Capital of the World, and the claim holds: 98 percent of the world’s caladium bulbs are grown here on 14 farms covering about 1,200 acres, a business going since the 1940s. It is also the Town of Murals, with 47 of them on downtown walls. The town was Lake Stearns until 1927, when Melvil Dewey, the man behind the library decimal system, suggested the current name.

The water is the geography. Lake Placid itself is 3,406 acres and 57 feet deep at its deepest, with the town limits on its north shore. Lake June in Winter, on the west side of town, is 3,726 acres and 40 feet deep, and its entire western shore is Lake June-in-Winter Scrub State Park. Placid Lakes, the unincorporated community southwest of town and south of Lake June, covered 18 square miles at the 2000 Census with 3,054 residents, a median age of 53, and 35.2 percent of residents 65 or older. It is built around Placid Lakes Country Club, a public 18-hole par-72 course.

What Lake Placid carts do

Two patterns. In Placid Lakes, the cart is the golf-community vehicle: to the course, around the neighborhood, to the lake access. Around the town and the lakefront, carts run the short trips between house, dock, and neighbor. Both put the cart outside more than a cart in a city garage, and outside is where Highlands County weather does its work.

Humidity on the terminals. The county is muggy from April 25 to November 16 by Weather Spark’s measure, and the NOAA normals at Archbold Biological Station put 54 inches of rain on the county a year, most of it in summer afternoons. A cart parked under a carport near the water spends seven months oxidizing. Green powder on a main cable adds resistance to every amp the motor pulls, the charger works harder, and the pack undercharges and sulfates. The tune-up service at $100 to $200 cleans and coats every terminal and checks the charge-port pins, and it is the one visit that pays for itself in Lake Placid.

Heat on the pack. Ninety-two days a year at 90°F or above, and no freezing nights to give the batteries a rest. Flooded lead-acid batteries lose water fast in that heat, and exposed plates lose capacity for good. Water monthly from May through September. Brakes and tires on sand and grass. Lake access paths and grove roads pack grit into brake drums. A squeal, a pull to one side, or a pedal that goes further than it used to means a brake and tire check: adjustment about $75, shoes and drums $100 to $250, tires $75 to $150 each.

Storm country

Lake Placid has taken the county’s hardest hits two years running. Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022 measured a 66 mph gust here, snapped poles along the southbound shoulder of US 27, and toppled a refrigerated trailer on Placid Lakes Boulevard; nearly the whole county was without power for at least 24 hours. Hurricane Milton on October 9 and 10, 2024 spun up an EF2 tornado at Lake Placid with 115 mph winds and put a 73 mph gust on Lake Placid Elementary, and 97 percent of the county’s electric customers were dark at noon the next day.

For a cart, an outage is a battery problem. A pack that sits discharged for days in the heat sulfates, and a charger that takes a surge when the power comes back is a dead charger. Charge fully and disconnect before the storm; load test the pack and check the charger’s output after, before you assume either is finished. Streets and the statute

Under F.S. 316.212 a golf cart may be operated only on a municipal street the town has designated and posted, or a county road the county has designated. We could not confirm a designation list for the Town of Lake Placid or for Highlands County, so treat public streets as off limits until the town says otherwise, and treat US 27 as a hard no: it is a state highway, and carts cross it only where the Department of Transportation approves. Inside Placid Lakes, the community rules govern the community roads. Since October 1, 2023 a driver under 18 needs at least a learner’s permit and an adult needs photo ID on any designated road. Everything on the pricing page applies in Lake Placid as written: solenoids $100 to $250, controllers $300 to $600, charger replacement $300 to $800, electric tune-ups $100 to $200, gas tune-ups $150 to $300. The trip fee sits at the top of the $75 to $100 range because of the drive, and it comes off the bill when you approve the work.
