Why mobile, and why here
A golf cart is the one vehicle most people cannot get to a shop when it breaks. It does not fit in the car, it needs a trailer, and if it will not roll you need two people and a winch just to load it. The traditional answer has been a dealer pickup with a wait. Ours is a truck with battery sets, solenoids, brake shoes, tires, belts, and a load tester already on it, sent to your address at a scheduled window.
Highlands County makes the case for mobile better than most places. The 2020 Census counted 101,235 residents with a median age of 54.7, and 35.1 percent of the county is 65 or older. The cart communities skew older still: Highlands Ridge and Tanglewood are 55-plus by rule, and Placid Lakes was already more than a third over 65 at the 2000 Census. In Sun ân Lake, Spring Lake, and the neighborhoods around the countyâs courses, the cart is daily transportation. A lot of owners would rather not wrestle a 60-pound battery in a garage that Weather Spark rates muggy or worse for nearly seven months of the year, and they should not have to.
What we are, and what we are not
We are independent. We are not an authorized dealer, service center, or warranty station for Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, ICON, Evolution, or anyone else, and we do not claim factory certification. If your cart is still under a manufacturerâs warranty, your selling dealer is the right call for warranty work; we will tell you that when you describe the problem, not after we have charged you. For everything out of warranty, which is most carts on the road in Highlands County, we come to you.
We do not sell parts you do not need. Every visit starts with the same diagnostic sequence: a load test on each battery, voltage readings across the pack under load, charger output at the plug, then solenoid and controller checks. On a flooded pack we pull a hydrometer reading cell by cell. That order matters because the three most common âdead cartâ calls (a failed charger, a corroded main cable, and one bad battery dragging down five good ones) all look like a dead pack from the driverâs seat, and they cost $100 to $300 to fix instead of $1,200 or more. The mobile repair page walks through the whole sequence.
We will also tell you when a repair is not worth it. A 20-year-old cart with a cracked frame and a tired motor does not need a $1,500 battery pack. It needs an honest conversation about resale value, and you will get one.
How the visit works
Describe the symptom by form: what the cart does, the brand, the number and voltage of batteries if you can see them, and a photo of the battery compartment. Most problems narrow down from a good description, so the tech arrives with the likely parts. The service call runs $50 to $100 depending on where you are in the county, includes the on-site diagnostic, and is applied toward the repair when you approve it. Most jobs are finished in that same visit. Lead-acid packs get watered, terminals cleaned and coated, hardware torqued, and the cart test-driven before we leave. Old batteries go with us for recycling.
Local knowledge that changes the work
Highlands County is hard on carts in specific ways, and we build the service around them. NOAAâs 1991 to 2020 normals for the Archbold Biological Station count about 92 days a year at 90°F or hotter, which is battery watering season, and zero nights at or below freezing, which means there is no winter layup: carts here cycle year-round and packs age by cycle count. The same station records 54 inches of rain a year, more than 25 of it in June through August, and the humidity that comes with it corrodes charge-port pins, cable lugs, and brake hardware in any garage that is not air-conditioned. Two storms in the last few years, Ian in September 2022 and Milton in October 2024, each knocked out power to nearly the whole county, and the week after each one brought surged chargers and packs that had been run flat in the dark. The tune-up service and our heat and humidity post are organized around that year.
We also keep up with the rules. Florida Statute 316.212 lets a golf cart on public roads only where the city, county, or water control district has designated and posted them, requires brakes, steering, tires, a mirror, and reflectors on any such cart, and since October 2023 requires an under-18 driver to hold a learnerâs license. Low-speed vehicles under 316.2122 are titled, insured motor vehicles with a full equipment list. Lighting and brake work on either kind of cart is safety work, and we treat it that way. The Florida street-legal page has the details.
